19. | | Lynn Robinson Verified EmailJanuary 19, 2010 at 9:46 am | Taking people to make-shift camps is a good idea in the short term. But where are the US soldiers in parachutes bringing food, medicine, water purifiers to the population this past week? The US has the largest best equipped military in the world. It has chosen an occupation with ground troops, not emergency relief. If Haiti's people are not receiving relief after a week, some may become violent, just as Americans would. Survival violence is no excuse to employ troops to force starving people to die without a struggle. The US has to stop blocking relief supply planes from landing at the PAP airport, ie Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross. The US needs to allow the relief to leave the airport and be delivered. The US has to allow Haitians into their own airport. Is this war on Haiti or relief? Once the Marines arrive, turning guns on the population is not acceptable, no matter how desparate those thirsty, wounded, hungry, grieving human beings become, due to the inadequate response to this disaster. |

I fear there are those in power who benefit from these disasters as Dr. Stanley Monteith has made clear. It is time for us to join together with even greater efforts as Jimmy Hendriks said "When the power of love is stronger than the love of power, the world will know peace." |
